almost forgot-

some of them get kind of painfully bad, especially in the 80s. That’s the other reason all your friends come in handy – you can sit there and make fun of the movies. We kept running friendly bets on how many ladies Bond would sleep with per movie, what Moneypenny was wearing, and enjoyed witty retorts (my favorite, during “Diamonds are Forever” – “yes, but emeralds are only three weeks”). Eventually a small plastic trophy showed up and whoever got the best line in got to hold the trophy for a bit.

make it a party!

My brother bought the boxed set of all 20 Bond films (to date) and I asked to borrow them so I could watch them all in order. He said he wanted to watch them too and suggested we watch them together, and we thought it would be fun to invite some friends over. Then he told everyone he’d make dinner for the first one – and I had the great idea to theme the food to the locale of the Bond film. The first one was Carribbean and it kind of rolled from there. My brother and I had fun theming the food, and after the first one we realized it would be expensive so we had everyone bring $5 and made it a weekly dinner-and-a-movie party. we had anywhere from 8 to 20 people each week, and once we finished Bond movies we were having so much fun we watched the Austin Powers series, then Pink Panther, Indiana Jones, etc. We kept it going for over 2 years, taking breaks in the summers when everyone was busy doing outdoor things and being out of town. It was great to have that sort of opportunity to see all your friends and eat a home cooked meal once a week! Especially with everyone contributing $5 it ended up being entirely manageable.
