Mistrust

pervades – a multifaceted nuclear mistrust. The sticky glue here is but a green necessity.

Blending takes time.

Sometimes things never blend and neither do people. Sometimes the separation is slow and arduous and has nothing to do with you. Some things and some people were never meant to be together. Some combinations leave bad tastes. Some combinations make you yearn for that beautiful, solitary note – clean and naked, strong and sure.

Far from happy

I never thought I’d yearn for my first marriage.

In a year we’ve gotten to where it took my ex and I to get to in seven or eight.

The hurt is deep and the love is thin.

Well...

Since moving to the new house, we are not so much a “Blended Family” as a single mother, her two daughters and an adult child who coexist within the same large house. It’s sure a lot of house but all the creature comforts don’t add up to a home or a family.

The tyrany of the triad

is vexing. There seem to only ever be three. It’s usually a parent whose gone, but like tonight it’s 2 parents and a daughter. So seldom is it ever that we’re all together. I yearn for the four of us to be together.

Tomorrow

The girls come back from 2 months away. Our blended family resumes, not exactly where it left off. It’s still to be seen whether we are better or worse. The coming weeks will answer that question. I’m excited about seeing them yet apprehensive about the adjustment time to come and the inevitable upheaval in our home this change will create.

My children are not missing

but I’m missing my children! The summer with them away has been sweet for DJ & I but their distance shows just how dear they are to me.

Conversation fragment

Lady at reunion: ...So do you two have any kids yet?
Me: Yes, we have a 10 year old and a 13 year old.
Lady at reunion: Oh…how long have you been married again?
Me: A year. (silence from both of us; puzzled looks from the Lady at reunion) The kids are my kids from before.

Opposite Cycles

plague DJ and I. Can we get on the same rollercoaster ride at least?

Changing dynamics

The blended family goes on the road for the summer. We become distance parents, relegated to measuring the children’s state of mind through emails and phone calls, without benefit of facial expressions and other body language. I look at their pictures with greater need and intensity. They’ve been gone for only 3 days and already they are misssed.
