Cigarettes just went up by 63 cents a pack yesterday. I cannot justify paying that much for something that will kill me eventually. Time to go hard-core and do it cold turkey! It won’t be easy. But I MUST! Wish me luck!

I tried to quit with the help of Chantix…I quit the Chantix because it made nauseous. I started back on the Chantix two days ago and can already see that I do not smoke as many cigarettes in a day as I did three days ago. To combat the nausea I make sure I eat before I take the Chantix.
Wish me luck! I really need to quit smoking because it only makes the polycythemia vera worse. And I could do without the symptoms of that as well. (It’s a blood disease).
Not that that makes any difference to smoking or not… I haven’t written about quitting for four months now. I sit here with a cig lit and burning in the ashtray. I find that I smoke more on days when the stress levels are high and less on days when I’m more carefree.
I’m keeping this goal on the list cause it is still a goal! Something or someone has to come along and either do or say the right thing at the right time to register in my brain that smoking isn’t an option I should pursue anylonger. That’s how I quit chewing my fingernails. Had done it for years and a friend said to me one day, “You know you really shouldn’t chew your fingernails.” and I haven’t for almost ten years now. The right something or someone just hasn’t come along yet. It doesn’t work for me to tell myself that smoking is bad for me! It just doesn’t! I’ve been doing that all along! It doesn’t do any good for the doctor to tell me smoking is bad for me! He’s done it a hundred times already and there’s that fag in the ashtray smoldering away! I do let more of them burn up than I smoke when I’m busy with my hands and typing takes BOTH hands. Guess that’s how I decrease the number of them at times.
Anyway, this is still a goal and it will remain a goal until I’ve accomplished it!
I have been taking Chantix to stop this horrible habit and it just is NOT working! I am on my third round of it and I should be smoke free by now! It is very frustrating and I’m not going a fourth round of it. If I am not smoke free by the end of April, I am not ever going to quit! That’s how I feel about it today anyway!
I have a lot of stress in my life right now and quitting is not high on my priority list – even with taking the Chantix. Perhaps I should …. no, no I am going to quit….someday!
Kudos to all you have quit! I know its possible to do it! I’ve done it three times before…has been years though and it feels like this is the FIRST time I’ve attempted to accomplish this!
Keep keeping on fine people!
This is the fourth time I’ve attempted to quit smoking in my 46 yrs on this earth. I started smoking when I was 16. My most successful attempt was when I was in my early 20s and quit for an entire year.
I’ve always quit ‘cold turkey’ before this time. I’m taking Chantix to help me ditch this addiction for good. I was off all my meds for a week or so and since I’ve gotten back on them, I find myself doing pretty good about NOT smoking. I had seven fags yesterday. This morning I’ve already had three.
Just plugging along here trying my damnedest to make this work as smoking is slowly killing me!
Hang in there all! I’m going to~!
This quitting business is harder than it ever was before, even with help from the Chantix. I think my problem there is that I quit taking all my meds, the Chantix included (like a dummy!) about a week ago. I’ve noticed that I am smoking more now than I was a week ago! I’m back on my meds again and hopefully the Chantix will start to do its job again real soon! The doc ain’t gonna be a happy camper when I show up for my appt in the morning and she asks how the smoking is going. I won’t lie to her! It’s not going real well at all. But we’ll see what happens when I stay on my meds. All of my meds! Quitting any of the meds was a stupid move! And now that I’ve figured that out—I won’t be doing that again!
Wish me luck! I’m still hanging in there!!!
I bought three packs of smokes on Tuesday of last week. I smoked the last one on Saturday morning. On my way back into town from my roadtrip I bought two more packs. Two packs lasted me from Saturday morning to now (and there are still nine cigs in the pack I have open.) The Chantix seems to be working though not as quickly as I was led to believe it would. It’s a grand improvement for a pack to last almost two days than it was when I was smoking more than a pack a day! This goal WILL be accomplished before the year is out!

The Chantix does indeed work, though not as quickly as I had hoped. I’m finding that I don’t need that first fag in the morning upon waking anymore.
I simply don’t smoke as often as I did before starting the Chantix. I think to be completely smoke-free, I am going to have to continue on it for a while. The whole 12 weeks for sure, but maybe a second round as well. Time will tell!
