I was getting a little rundown this afternoon and took some time out to do a dozen sun salutations. Not much but it did re-energize me. I’d say it’s more progress!
I finally started a few of the poses yesterday, spent about half an hour and I really only got through the warm up ones but I felt really great afterwards. My boyfriend shocked me by saying that he wants to read “Yoga for Dummies” after me! That would be great because we could support each other. Today I had a class which I was totally falling asleep during. I took a break and did a few of the yoga warmups in the bathroom and it really re-energized me. I’d like to get to a point where whenever I feel like drinking or smoking I do some yoga instead.
I took out the book from the library a couple of days ago and just started reading it yesterday. I realize that I have to prepare my body to start a lot of this. I will have to go slowly. I’ve let myself get pretty out of shape – not just by gaining a few pounds but by not stretching or bending regularly also. I will also have to work hard to train my breath because I usually maintain bad posture which has limited it and I definitely don’t breathe fully. All that is going to change!
Just doing the breathing yesterday made me feel absolutely incredible and got me into doing a few stretches. Embarassingly, I can’t remember the last time I really stretched. Also this morning I actually went out walking and stayed conscious of my breathing the whole time. I hope this is the beginning of a very positive thing.
The book is very, very informative and I would recommend it to anyone. However, there seems to be a ton to take in before I can actually start. Also, they recommend practicing yoga with a group or at least someone else. I feel too self conscious to go to a yoga class. I feel as though I need to work on it at home before I will be comfortable enough with my body to practice with others. That’s my plan.
Please tell me your experiences so far. My biggest fear is not remaining consistent, as that has been my biggest setback in the past.
