I’ve made progress on this goal over the past few month. I spent a lot time at an airshow talking to various pilots and understanding the process.
I bought the new Microsoft Flight Simulator for my PC, and I’ve taken most of the lessons…. I also picked up a flight yoke and pedals for added realism.
I’ve been flying a lot for work, and I’ve been paying close attention to what the pilots are doing….especially on approach.
Now I just need to do the hard yards and spend the time in flight school & putting in the hours. I really think I can get this done this year!

...so I really need to pick up the pace on this to get my private pilot’s license. I’d love to get a small Piper Cub or similar single engine plane that I can use to commute in and out of the LA/San Diego/etc. from my new house in Imperial Valley.

I have just about all of the resources to do this. A year ago, my wife bought me my first set of lessons at San Carlos Airport(5 mins from my house), but other projects, work, and spending time with friends/family have really gotten in the way.
My in-laws live right by a little airport in Southern California (where the Blue Angels practice), and my dream is to own a Cirrus Design aircraft and fly from Northern California to Southern California every few months with the family.
I have a friend in Australia who owns a small fleet of private planes including a P-51 Mustang, a Russian Mig, and a twin engine Beechcraft. He has offered to take me flying once I get my license…. I just need to get motivated and do this.
