I haven’t had percolated coffee in a long time, but I love the word “percolate” as a metaphor for “mull over”—as in “I am going to let that idea percolate for a while.”
And it reminds me of the sound of an old percolator coffee pot, which made awful coffee but SOUNDED great.

Chazerai....
Pronounced “ha-zer-AYE” with a gutteral at the start, and a long I at the end, accent on the last syllable.
It means “stuff,” with the connotation of a vast collection of odds and ends.
In my office at the temple, there is a drawer labeled “Rabbi Adar’s Chazerai / No borrowing, please!” and in it there is an assortment of kippot, bobby pins, pencils, gum, and other… chazerai.

I know, it’s a an animal that has become associated with unattractive behavior, etc…. but I just love the WORD.
WEE-ZIL. Makes me smile. Every time.
Also “weaselly”.
With all due apologies to weasels, who I am sure are much better at weaseling than even the most accomplished politician.

From “delectare,” Latin for to charm, to please.
This is one of those words that sounds to me EXACTLY like what it is for some reason.

I like the most common meaning, kind of like “aware” but more active.
I like another specialized meaning, too, for a Jew who keeps the so-called ritual commandments. I like it a LOT more than “religious” which is also used to denote an observant Jew.

It sounds hopeful and sneaky all at the same time!
“I am an incipient rabbi.” Makes me laugh just to type it.
