After FINALLY getting my drivers’ license last spring in addition to all my friends, we’ve all realized something terribly sad.
Before being able to drive, we used to bike all over Columbus and always seemed to run into dozens of other friends along the way. If we were bored, we’d hop on our bikes and guarantee that we’d run into someone. Days were so instantaneous, and we were so spontaneous.
I guess something changed this summer.
Out of options, we decided to do what we used to do and biked around the neighborhood. But we didn’t see a single person. It sounds stupid, but was probably one of the most depressing feelings.
Now everybody drives. Nothing is so instantaneous, no one is so spontaneous. Driving a car makes everything purposeful and planned.
