Maybe my summer home will be a lesson in communal living 8 months ago

I have the option now of choosing places and people to live with for the summer.
It looks like i’m not going to have much of a problem finding a sublet in Vancouver for the summer, and i’m hopeful that i can find not just a well priced and located home but a harmonious and interesting group of people to live with.

I have learned a lot after a few years of living on my own, and this year of living with someone very different than me.
I love making a home, and meeting people but sometimes its hard to make my way in a new city so hopefully i can have some built in community when i land for 3 months and figure out a plan for what i’m going to do in the fall.

Love Love Love my life!

Just spent a few days at Presqu'isle 16 months ago

With my friend Rebecca’s father, Mr. Grove and the owner/editor of Hidden Brook Press with his wife Kim.

They have a beautiful AND little house out on a site that is neighbors with a provincial park. It was great to see someone so interested in conserving energy/environment and living sustainably just doing their own thing.
He’s an artist/former craftsperson and so i guess no stranger to doing things a little differently, but not heavily academic about the way we lives.

I was out there for 3 days and it was heaven.
I just watched bee’s for hours and read and walked through the trails and went swimming… I could get used to that being my lifestyle.

I guess its making me think seriously about ontario in general as a place to live.

Especially after getting close with my sister/brother in law this year and their kids… i’m thinking seriously about coming back to live one day. Something i never expected to say, but hey… i’ve got family up here. And i like the snow/summer/fields and small towns.
i could grow chestnut trees on the median of my suburban reclaim community. :)

Way down the road, or before i expect it. 2 years ago

I have no hard and fast plans because, well that’s silly. You can’t control stuff eh?

Someday though, i would like to be involved with the re-clamation of urban and suburban areas. I have no experience with planning/permaculture to date, and my thumb is totallly charred black..
I am however a pretty good leader and i can see that there is a big (if slow) change to be made in north america proper in terms of how we use our land, how we farm and build communities. (i can totally use a wheelbarrow, and dig stuff too)

We have amassed an amazing wealth of resources as one big post-colonial monosociety… therefore we have at our disposal a mirayad of ways of creatively coping with the environmental changes that lay ahead. I’m excited to be a part of the transition in any small way i can.

I also think that the changes that it makes sense to make, such as co-housing and new urbanism-type concepts will help reconnect people, make communities more vibrant and productive than ever before and teach us to trust each other again.

I’m all up for making fresh, organic, compassionate love, not war.
