I got a response back from the Latino art gallery. They provide classes to children and arts to supplement their monthly exhibits on Latino art at the gallery. The next gallery opening is the first week of September and the coordinator invited me to participate.
I feel like the Universe is slowing guiding me towards a path and opening the doors for me to make it easier for me to pass. Can I really handle volunteering at two different arts groups? Both groups are based in the city ad it would be a good 30-45 minute drive to get there every week. I’m a little concerned about the cost of driving up there and some part of me thinks that it might be better for me to get a part-time job to supplement our family’s thin income.
Then again, this is something I want to do for myself. And it might end up being the beginning of a new career. It’s worth it to try it for a month. It’s not one of those things you can think about; I think it’s just something you have to do.

I'm excited!

I called two places that offer art classes for kids. One of them teaches classes to kids who are disabled, specifically visually impaired. They offer an after school class on Thursdays and they have a volunteer opening.
I spoke with the Program Assistant, Angela, and she’s brand new to the organization. She invited me to come to the studio starting in September and participate. I hope things work out for the best. At the very least, this is a good way for me to try out this field without spending a lot of time or money.

I found two places in town that teach art to kids afterschool. I need to call two places tomorrow and find out what kind of opportunities are available for me to help teach a class.
I’ve been thinking about becoming a teacher or a counselor for elementary school kids and being a volunteer is a good way for me to see if I would like actually being in this field. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art, so teaching art to kids seems to be a natural fit.
One place is a nonprofit that teaches art to kids with disabilities and the other teaches art to kids from the Latino community. Art is used as a way to help kids who may not be able to express themselves easily in English and help the kids address issues effecting them at home.
It sounds pretty cool. Hope to have a good conversation tomorrow.
