Get a job that I enjoy, am proud of, and is fun

Does the job have to be what I’m doing now? Is there something else I could do? What changes can I make so that I end up in a position where I don’t need my current salary, so can take a lower one doing something new? Do I have or can I learn skills that might enable me to do something I’d really like? What would I really like? Maybe that question should be what’s important to me, and what kind of job or career would suit that? Once I figure that out, I can start looking for what I need to do to get it.

This is not going to happen in the near future. I have no idea what such a job would be, or even how to go about looking for it. I have no skills other than those I use in my current job. I’m not even up-to-date enough in those skills to start looking for other jobs in the same field (software development). I am, basically, monoskilled and damn lucky to have the job I do. So I better just stick with it. Face it, any job sucks.

It’s not going to happen – at least, not on the foreseeable future. I’m nicely trapped where I am – and it’s really a trap of my own making. But with a bit of self-discipline, I might just be able to make things a little easier, so that one day I will be able to at least think about doing this.

I just need to figure out what that is…
