I took four years of German in high school. I did so well on my placement test that I started in the third class at the college level. After finishing that and the final course at Ohio State, I transferred out to Arizona State, where they require two years of a foreign language, which as I see it I’d already had, only OSU is on a quarter system and ASU semesters. The beginning of the second year of German at ASU was almost exactly the same as the class that I had tested into, but as I’d taken my German classes right away when I started college, I figured I might as well stay in this one and refresh the language mindset.
I didn’t have a minor in college; I was basically focused on getting my degree and getting school over with. And you know how helpful advisors are with that sort of thing. I had considered minoring in German before though. Not exactly sure how it would help with biology, but I enjoy the subject nonetheless. Only problem is now I never use it. I can say I’m fluent if that simply means I can read, write, and speak the language, but it’s on what I call a retarded level. It would be great if I could practice my German. But I don’t even read much in English, have no one to write to or check my writing, and I don’t know anyone who speaks it. So I’m at a loss. But hey, maybe this is where 43 Things can help me out, if anyone else needs someone to practice their German with pick me, pick me.
