The New 7 Wonders of the World 1 year ago

Globetrotters, start your engines!!!!! :)

The Vote for the new seven wonders is over and the winners have just been announced…. The poll was quite controversial and many are not taking the final list too seriously but there is no denying the buzz this event has generated as the 7 wonders are ‘the’ topic of conversation at every water cooler these days.

This updated rendition was arranged as the pyramids are the only site that have survived from the original list of wonders(that list was created over 2,300 years ago!)

200+ sites from around the globe were selected and the list was narrowed down to the final 21… and then we were off to the ballots!

The Finalists:

The Acropolis, Greece
Alhambra, Spain
Angkor, Cambodia
Chichen Itza, Mexico
Statues of Easter Island, Chile
Eiffel Tower, France
Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
Hagia Sophia, Turkey
Kiyomizu Temple, Japan
Great Wall, China
The Colosseum, Italy
Kremlin/St. Basil, Russia
Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
Machu Picchu, Peru
Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
Statue of Liberty, USA
Stonehenge, United Kingdom
Petra, Jordan
Sydney Opera House, Australia
Taj Mahal, India
Timbuktu, Mali

At the end, there were over 100 million votes cast from across the globe. The results include worldwide online, text messaging and telephone voting. In a way, this made it the first ever global election of sorts.

WHICH 7 WOULD MAKE YOUR PERSONAL LIST???

After months of voting and anticipation, the list of 7 was revealed on 7-07-’07 and here they are >

If I could select an alternate 7th, it would definitely be the magnificent Alhambra as I was in AWE when I visited Granada a few years back.

So far, I have had the good fortune of traveling to these 4 sites…

The Colosseum

The Alhambra

Eiffel Tower

& Neuschwanstein Castle

WHICH LOCATIONS HAVE YOU VISITED???

Seeing this list makes me want to take another journey ASAP

The wonders of the world are calling me….......

Memories of the 2002 trip 2 years ago

This morning I browsed over to the G&M website and the headlines read B.C. ferry sinks> Queen Of The North goes down @ Inside Passage
I was pulled in as I too had taken this same route on a similar vessel a few year back (Prince Rupert to Port Hardy)

AS I read on I was relieved to discover that only a 100 passengers were on board(~max cap 700) and all had been accounted for
Thank GOD… As I reminisced, i was reminded of quite a few ferry accidents in recent years and who can forget the tragedy in the Baltic sea(ESTONIA) back in ‘94

I recalled my overnight journey and the rough sea… The cruise down the Inside passage was spectacular..gorgeous views all around.. I got to see undisturbed nature , whales and majestic beauty surround us

Yet strangely enough …This was NOT the most disturbing NEWS I came across today ..not by far… A personal call that followed relating to the family business and an event that took place today will be remembered for a while..

A tragedy was avoided and one that for some reason …................................wasn’t

ahhh, strange world we live in

Itinerary Update... 2 years ago

for my next great adventure * :-D* ...whenever that may be!

Travel plans are in the very early stages at the moment :-(

New Zealand and Australia

Had plans to venture off to the land down under even before the euro trip happened…

Too far
Too much $$$

I will one day, I will

AND/OR?

Turkey and Greece

Ok.. so during the backpacking bonanza… I was in Italy and had the choice of taking the ferry over to Greece and bum around the region for a while OR take the road less travelled and scramble off to Scandinavia( I choose the latter The Fjords are heaven on earth people and I don’t regret the decision but… )

I will return …..one of these days

OR

I seek adventure and an adventure I shall have..

A trip to the local 7-Eleven where I will get a Slurpee and a hot-dog and Then I’m off to Walmart….. LOL
