turns out my flatmate wants to learn as well and bought some CDs. we listened to one tonight and laughed at our first meagre attempts… “pardon monsieur, [something-a-rather] vous kompron l’francais?”.... (too bad i dont!)... i need a throat lozenge from all that straining, lol

i'd also like to learn 4 years ago
  • some phrases of French—before going to Quebec
  • to be fluent in Maori—i already know a lot of words and pronounciations that come from growing up in NZ, but I want to expand this knowledge and help preserve the language unique to my country :)
  • enough Greek to “get by”—for a months travel there next year
  • to speak Spanish fluently—for when I travel South America
  • to speak French fluently—or whatever language i’d need to navigate my way around countries in Africa

...and when i have learnt these languages i’d like to find communities in NZ where i can speak them and retain the knowledge!
