Jeff Beck
When Eric Clapton quit the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck stepped in tot ake his place. I understand that Eric Clapton has a mastery of the instrument, but even in the “freak out” days of Cream, he seemed to “in control”, to safe…let your daughter date him. Bad boy Beck on the other side of the Brain was being late for rerhearsals and a real asshole before assholes were cool. I have finally, after so many years, gotten my childish revenge and I tell you ALL. I TOLD YOU SO.
Beck takes chances out there, on the stage, and sometimes his reach exceeds the length of the guitar neck but we still hear him. He blows minds, and he doesn’t even get to pick ,,,he doesn’t use them. In todays world of sampling and processing, the digital recording world will give you anything but a surprise. He fits into Jazz standards like “Goodbye Pork-Pie Hat’ as easily as he interprets a hungagaian folk song.
Do not underestimate or simply appreciate what and how he plays, look at his latest group. Where did he get that drummer?????Andy Gangadene??Yup! From the Spice Girls. He plays like a Norwegegian lumberjack, but his touch and innovation is more than an anchor for the group, its true gravity defined. Jennifer Batten has been put on the super shuttle for the stars…..Will we hear great things from her on her own? I think it will happen, Jeff Beck. I play guitar like Dale Duke and wonder how you hacked the mind of God to play like you do.
Respectfully
