Cleaning my insane room at home tonight, I moved my sax from its spot on the floor to a newly-deigned spot in the closet. And regardless of the fact that I know I won’t play for another six months (I’ll finish my MA in May), my arm automatically accustomed itself to the exact weight of the case that I’d remembered. It felt for a brief moment like a spark of magic, a quick remembrance and a push to keep going. I’ll get there.

Magic via cold brass and warm breath.
I play the saxophone and while I’ve never really practiced in earnest or considered it an academic endeavor (though I’ve played in and loved school bands for nearly 12 years), the feel of cold brass to warm fingers is magical in ways that few other things are. I stopped playing temporarily when I graduated college in May of 2005, but when I find myself established, I really want to join a small community band or maybe an eight-piece jazz combo. Something, is all. I need that catharsis again.
