I ain’t got the bullshit, and I ain’t got the lies
I ain’t got the memories of tears in your eyes
If Only
This is a bt of a depressing one and never fails to make me feel pretty damn awful. But at the same time, his voice is so beautiful and his words are so poignant you can’t help but love it, for all it’s pain. Me and the friend that introduced me to it listen to it and cry…It’s just simple acoustic guitar and his singig but that’s what makes it so haunting, in all it’s simplicity. This man is a legend anyway.
You got a new man, and he sounds great
I got a new girl who treats me right
If Only
I’d be right on the train, first one out
Up to town to take you out
Again

I remembered how much I love this song when I heard it in a club the other night, and was just in awe/jumping around and singing. I’s just such an anthem, it reminds me of year 11 and finally I love being able to shout
Get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook
The northern accents make me smile as well :) Happy times.

Hey there Delilah
Don’t you worry about the distance
I’m right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Yes I know its probably the most overplayed song in history but I still love it. It kept me going through a difficult 4 months in France when I was missing most people like hell but someone in particular sprang to mind whenever I heard this. And it’s just so darn pretty!
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they’ve got planes and trains and cars
I’d walk to you if I had no other way

I had to think long and hard about which Beatles song I would include but I really love this one. It’s not got the anthemic nature of some of their stuff or the seriousness of their later albums but it encompasses for me what the Beatles should sound like. Happy, carefree, simply good music. The kind of Beatles I grew up to as a kid and learnt all the lyrics to, so this reminds me of happy times, not to mention being played in between support acts at a Guillemots gig. Cheered me right up. I danced and everything :D

I first heard this song on a coach in Greece, going through some generic countryside. But we were dead tired and comfortably quiet, and this song fitted the mood perfectly. And it’s taken on much more meaning for me since then, not to mention the video. I think the video sealed it onto this list, it’s strangely beautiful. Check it.

This is the lead singer from Stereophonics doing a one off solo album, and it is entirely beautiful. Lyrics, music, everything. I’ve only had this album a couple of months but this song really sounded like the title, completely embodied it. Long, hot, lazy, blissful days. Tinge of sadness about it depending on your mood as well. Just fucking great.
Gliding birds wings
Watch them fly
Diving down and
Climbing high
Shooting stars fly
Through my sky
Ripe black cherries
Taste like wine
Then I feel like lying down so still
Making shapes from clouds in the sky with you
Water drops from hoeny dew
Decreasing circles
From stones I threw
Greasy skin shines in the sun
Today’s the day
And you’re the one
And when the sun has gone away
And I feel I wanna stay
I taste a raindrop in my mouth
I pick you up and the sky comes down
Then I feel like lying down so still
Making shapes from clouds in the sky with you

A friend once talked me through the story of his unrequited love for a girl he knew, and shortly afterwards gave me this CD. He told me it got him through his worst times and I can’t help but think of him when I hear it, the lyrics just ring so true. It makes my stomach tie in knots just thinking about it now tbh. The beautiful lyrics and melody just makes it worse.
So lets face it, this was never what you wanted
But I know that its fun to pretend
Our blank stares and empty threats
Are all I have…
They’re all I have…
So drown me.. if you can
Or we could just have conversation
and I fall, I fall, I faulter.
I found you before I drift away
Now you still speak of day old hate
Though your whole world has gone up into flames
And isn’t it great to find that you’re really worth nothing
And how safe it is to feel safe
So drown me and if you can
Or we could just have conversation
And I fall, I fall, I faulter.
But I found you before I drift away
The things we do just to stay alive
The things we do just to stay alive
The things we do just to stay alive

No its not because of the name. Although it is quite apt. Twas the first song that got me into this band and i remember daning around my room one morning when it came on the radio and how it made me late for school that day. I remember thinking what an amazing sound they had, the name just spooked me a bit. Fantastic track which never fails to make me smile.

Sounds bad but reminds me of maths lessons – my teacher had this as his ringtone and it went off one lesson, which made us laugh as we first heard this coming from his jacket pocket…

It really does make you feel good! I know it’s a cover but it’s the song that first got me into Muse, when I was 14. You want to turn it up to full volume, so that the quiet bit at the beginning sounds ok but then it kicks in and blows your ears out. Excellent :D
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life, for me
And I’m feeling good
