Honu Beer
The story of Honu Beer & the Porter guys
Honolulu Advertiser’s article
Brett Porter started selling Honu Beer (available in Hawaii) to raise $ for endangered sea turtles. He had been teasing his dad for talking about turtles all of the time until Brett himself fell for the turtles while snorkeling with his dad. He realized that he had to do something to help them, but he didn’t know what to do until one day, it hit him. Brett is a brewer, so he created a new beer especially to raise funds to protect sea turtles. Honu Beer was born. So, if you’re in Hawaii and want to help turtles, try some of Brett’s brew.

This doctor helps rape victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a war on women worse even than the Taliban of Afhanistan. These vicious attacks on women are particularly unfathomable. Yet without his work, these women may not be alive. Eve Ensler wrote a very important article about the doctor and his patients that prompted international investigations. If you choose to read the article, be warned that it’s horrendously graphic.

Ryan White never lived to be an adult. He contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion and struggled to continue attending school where he was bullied because students were afraid of him. He became the poster child for AIDS in the 80’s, when fear of the epidemic was running high. Because so many AIDS victims were gay or drug users, the disease was seen as some kind of punishment for its victims. His willingness to speak about AIDS helped other AIDS patients to be treated as human beings.

Kyle is a congenital amputee, meaning that he was born with only partial formation of his limbs. He’s now an athlete, involved with wrestling. He’s good at it too. He really doesn’t have arms or legs, yet he wins wrestling matches on a regular basis. He’s the reason I should not be a couch potato.

Pure integrity. If you measure a man by what he has said, then check out these quotes by Poitier.

Ok, we all know who he is. What I like is that he’s started a project to build environmentally sustainable homes in New Orleans. He’s looking ahead to a rebuilt New Orleans, as well as considering the income level of the citizens there. Here’s the website And he’s super luscious. (sorry, it can’t be ignored)
