I watched Penn & Teller’s Bullshit on Showtime last night about the Boy Scouts of America and their exclusion of gays and atheists from the boy scouts. I already knew this, I mean I’ve heard enough press about gay scout leaders being kicked out, but I didn’t really pay attention before now. Now I have a plan on how to fight back. Every year the Boy Scouts come out with their popcorn drive and lay in wait in front of grocery stores, much like the girl scouts and their cookies just not as popular. I will gently explain to the scouts (and their shark-like mothers) that I can’t support the boy scouts because they discriminate against homosexuals. Hopefully that will generate some interesting conversations back in the den.
A panicky thought I had watching the show was “oh no – what about the cookies?!” Do the girl scouts also discriminate? Trusty Penn already had the answer – the girl scouts and boy scouts are separate entities and the girls have no policies of exclusion or discrimination. Girls rock.
