Last night I finished my very first crocheted blanket! It was a baby blanket for my cousin’s daughter. It came out so beautiful…not bad for my first try. I have now been commissioned to make a couple more by some friends :) Next project is a counted cross-stitch but that I’ve done before!

(The baby in this picture is not the baby, or the blanket. But she’s cute isn’t she?)

I just completed row 100! Yes I do keep track. My original goal was 10 rows a day but that wasn’t feasible with life and everything SO I do as much as I can as often as I can. Last night I was a crocheting fool catching up on all my Oprah’s I had DVRed. I have exactly 1 month to finish it with 5 skeins left!!

My mother taught me to crochet and knit when I was young. I hadn’t crocheted in 20 years and then picked it up last week by working on a scarf my sister was doing. I just started up like I never stopped!
SO…I am making a blanket for my cousin’s new baby Kelsey. It is going to be a lot bigger than a baby’s blanket because I want her to be able to use it for years. So far I am 50 rows in and it is about 50 inches wide. It takes about 20 minutes a row but it is keeping my hands busy, fun and meditative, AND I know it is for a present so it keeps me going. My goal is to have this done by X-mas so I can give it to her then.
After that I want to make baby blankets to donate to hospitals. They would be easier and take less time because I would make them smaller and I think it would be neat to know that a blanket I made was keeping a new or sick baby warm!
