Cheesy title or what – Pandora, Last.fm and Deezer have been tutoring me in all things musical. I’m officially a child of the internet generation. Trouble is, at work it’s extremely appealing to listen to the radio and all the lame chit chat that comes along with it rather than discovering new things.
Things to do…
Gigs. Go to them.
Pandora etc. Listen. Listen hard.
At home chill out with music rather than internetting or tv-ing.
Look up exciting club nights and go to them.
Get the chaps to make me mix cds.

A lovely boy has made me an awesome mix cd which is causing me to abandon work and spin around on my chair with my arms in the air. Think I’m in love with Adam Green from the one pretty pretty song I’ve just heard. Hurrah! I have an electronica cd winging its way to me as well, and have requested one other, so maybe this is the start of something fabulous! Must also make some research cds for my course next year.

I’ve requested a mix tape from one person, and am going to ask someone else for another. Have burnt about 6 of my friend’s cds and started listening to them this week – so far am loving Joanna Newsom muchloads.

Did loads of new music listening in the last few days, and had really great intense discussions about music. Being a total cheeseball, I was putty in the potential new fella’s hands as soon as we bonded over Jeff B’s ‘She’s a tear that hangs inside my soul forever’ and Otis Redding. But we also listened to bigloads of electronica and stuff which was not at all romantic but equally excellent.

Somewhere, somehow, in the last three years I’ve lost all music in my life. It used to be what defined me and drove me, and I want that back. I want to discover new things and remember old things. My digital radio is the first step, I love it and it’s a much better way of waking up than a horrible bleeping alarm. I’m gradually taking all of my flatmates cds and ripping them onto my laptop – hundreds of new and exciting songs to learn to love. This week I went to see two bands, and have a few lined up for the next month, I’ve started writing for a paper so that I can get free gigs and cds – super. Plus I’ve just got a really cheap and rubbish mp3 player which I can use for jogging. Now I just have to start listening and enjoying. I sat down today and listened to Regina Spector from beginning to end – it was amazing.
