at least the selection of them to be found in Wheelock’s Latin Reader. I’m going to switch back to Homeric Greek now, briefly reviewing over the next couple of days everything I’ve learned until now, and then continuing with my translation of the Iliad.

Only one week behind schedule, not, of course, due to any slacking on my part but rather to the unexpected arrival and extended stay of an old friend and her two-year old daughter, who kept me quite happily occupied for the past week or so.
Next on the agenda, I intend to translate a batch of Cicero’s personal correspondence, although I’m putting that on the back burner until I catch up on my study of Greek, which I’ve been neglecting of late.

I’ve finished translated the first half of the Actio Secunda of Cicero’s In C. Verrem, which leaves eleven short passages concerning the crucifixion of Publius Gavius left to finish by my goal of December 19th. At the conservative rate of about an hour per passage, that means I need to spend about two hours a day translating Latin to reach my goal. That’s pushing it a bit, but doable.

Just now finished memorizing nearly 1000 Latin words from flashcards, right on schedule. The next step is to translate the selections from Wheelock’s Latin Reader. I’ve already completed the Actio Prima from Cicero’s “In C. Verrem.” Now on to the Actio Secunda. It’s fairly long, but I think I finish it in two weeks, by Dec. 19th.

Almost two years ago I purchased Wheelock’s Latin and crunched my way through it at an agonizing pace. Now I’m working on Wheelock’s Latin Reader, the intermediate course, and I’ve just finished constructing a set of nearly 1000 flashcards to aid me in the memorization of all the words that appear in the text more than five times. My goal is to have them all down in two weeks, by Dec. 5th. Then on to the translation.
