start a compost heap

It’s been a while since I updated. In early August, I went to a backyard composting class, and learned about composting and received a free composter. Mid August, I set it up, and I’ve been composting since then. I don’t expect that I’ll have usable compost until spring, but hey, that’s just right!

I signed up for a local composting course run by the county. At the end of the two hour class, you get a nice bin, all for just the cost of the class, which is $20.

Now that I have a house, I really want to start a compose heap. Growing up, we composed all the time, and I cringe every time I throw out anything that could be made into nice rich dirt.

Plus, the soil in the yard is mostly clay, so I need some nice, rich dirt to mix into it. Might as well make my own!

I’ve picked out the best location in the yard… I just need to look into compost bins and make a screen
