They seem to be the only state with any sense. I just read an article about how they are trying to implement a new law that would get rid of all incandescent (I don’t know if I spelled that right) bulbs by the year 2012, making everyone switch to CFLs. I know changing your lightbulbs doesn’t make a HUGE impact for the whole world, but it is a difference, and when you get the whole state, especially one as big as California, it makes a nice dent.
That’s added to the fact that they’ve been trying to set better, higher regulations on mpg standards. I wish other states would take a hint from them.
I also read that there is supposed to be a law coming out in July requiring most grocery stores to have plastic bag recycling. If we could get rid of them, that would be awesome, but at least recycling them is something.
I feel a teeny tiny itty bitty fraction of a bit better knowing that at least some things are being done by other people, larger groups of them, to help make a difference. It’s not much now, but maybe this’ll help get it started, and things will start changing for the better. I HOPE SO! :)

I know everyone has been talking about how they haven’t had any snow yet in areas that normally have snow and things like that, but what I hate the most is that you never know what the weather will be from day to day.
It used to get really cold here, and every year the winters seem warmer and shorter. My dad sells Christmas trees and this was the first year that we were outside selling trees without having to wear four layers of clothes and still be freezing. We were even hot on some days! That is SO weird.
This year has definitely been the weirdest, what with the weather feeling like August in January and such, but just two days ago, it was about 75 degrees outside and yesterday…..it was FREEZING cold!! I don’t know what the actual temperature was, but it was COLD. One day you are wearing tank tops, the next day, you have on a wool sweater and a coat and scarf and everything. You never know what to prepare for!
Personally I HATE being cold, but I know that all this warm weather isn’t normal, and it’s kinda creepy! And I definitely don’t like the sudden changes in temp. I like to slowly ease into the cold so it’s not so shocking, but fat chance of that around here!

I had already started replacing almost all of the lightbulbs in our house with CFLs just because, although they are more expensive to buy now, in the long run they’ll save us money on our electric bill. Now of course, I’ve realized that they are better for the environment and everyone should switch to them. I’ve really been wanting to start recycling, but I’ve never done it and don’t have a lot of information about how to get started. Does anyone know how I can go about finding recycling centers in my area? And is there any way that I can still recycle items even if they don’t have centers in my area for certain items? Like by saving them up and taking them somewhere else? Thanks for any info!
I really want to make a difference, but I know we need about 5 billion other people to try just as hard to make a real difference. I’m still going to do as much as I can at least.
