I had my first dentist appointment at a dental school because I’m making an effort not to spend all my mom’s money these days. My appointment was at 8AM. When I showed up to check in, six people were ahead of me in line. According to the sign-in sheet, they were all walk-in patients; according to the poster above the sign-in sheet, walk-in treatment is only for dental emergencies.
I’m glad I didn’t have a dental emergency. I probably should take better care of my chompers so as to avoid that fate. Filling the cavities is a step in that direction. So is getting my lingual retainer removed. Omg, it’s been attached to my bottom teeth since like 1997!!
Probably tragic: I overheard my student dentist ask about a girl she had seen for some sort of dental procedure or surgery or something. Another student said that the girl had been admitted to U-M Hospital that night to have surgery and they would try to do the dental procedure at the same time. I worry that she is a domestic violence victim. A woman young enough for dental students to call a “girl” has a significant problem with her teeth and the next day needs surgery? That is extraordinarily bad luck. I wish her the best.
