Team check in 4 weeks ago

Alright team of four that I am part of, how are we doing on this? It has been a long time since any of us wrote about this, and I thought I’d check in and see how we’re doing. I know I’m doing horrible, but I thought it was time to see if everyone else was doing better or not as horrible or what. I hope all is well.

not so great 12 months ago

I lost touch with my motivation for this. I need to get back in touch with that.

Not doing great 3 years ago

I’m not doing great on this goal of reading the Bible daily. I think right now I might be able to claim “monthly” rather than “daily”.

I left this site for a while, but then decided to come back on different terms and so as I was going through my goals I concluded that yes this is one that I need social support on.

I had hoped for a chapter a day, but for a while now I’ve only managed 8 verses a month. I’d like to change that.

How are you all (the rest of my team members here on this goal, or anyone else reading this) doing on this? I haven’t heard from you in a while.

Take care,
Andrew

100 psalms down 3 years ago

I’ve now finished reading the first 100 psalms and I feel like the more I do so, the more I get out of reading them. I pray the other members of this team that I’m on are getting as much out of their reading of the bible too.

50 psalms down 3 years ago

As I’ve mentioned in other entries on this goal, I set up a special bible blog to record my readings on those days when I read them. As I describe on my first entry on that blog I decided to start with the book of Psalms.

I’ve now managed to read 50 psalms.

I do feel like I’ve gotten something out of this – as always, there is always room for improvement, but I do feel like this is being beneficial to me.

Ok, so still not entirely back on schedule 3 years ago

But I’m trying. Now I think there’s a chance that I might actually be back on schedule with this goal.

Back on schedule, I hope 3 years ago

As mentioned here I hope that I’ll now be able to be back on schedule and able to resume this after some travels and then an illness (which I am still recovring from, and which I have some backwork related to to take care of, so my activities on this site will still be limited for a while).

The bible blog has now also been added as a “feed” available via those subscribed through 43things. A reminder, you may unsubscribe to specific feeds as you see fit.

I tried a prayer journal, and it worked, so.... 3 years ago

I tried a prayer journal (
http://www.andrewsw.com/prayerblog/blogger.html
) and announcing it here seems to have helped me keep up with that. So I’m thinking I should try a “bible blog”. So I’ve set one up at
http://www.andrewsw.com/bibleblog/
and we’ll see how well this goes.

Hopefully it will help me progress on my way towards accomplishing the goal of reading the Bible daily in the same way that the prayer blog helped me in accomplishing the goal of keeping a prayer journal and praying every day.

Systematically? 3 years ago

When I read the bible before, it was pretty much straight through. I know many people swear by using bible-study guide things, but I always feel like those things bias my interpretation and that I should be interpreting it for myself, but that’s probably just my own issue. What do you think would be the best way to approach this?

I know some just flip open to a random page and then read what it comes to. This too, has its pros and cons.

Whatever it is, I want it to be a plan for continued daily reading and not just a repetition of a plan for reading the whole thing through again – does this make any sense?

Of course.... 3 years ago

Of course, maybe I really should be making time for this…. How long can I delay before the procrastination is officially declared “chronic procrastination”?
