get my own place

So it’s official; I’m renting an apartment. Not entirely what I had planned initially though as I’ll be sharing it with my adopted kiddo (who’s actually an adult, long story behind that one).

While it’s not an apartment of my own, this is a marked step in the right direction.

This goal? will be achieved within the next 12 months, if not within the next 6 hopefully.

I’ve got a job now, one that pays well (above minimum wage), and one that’s got steady hours and a set schedule. This sets so many of my goals into motion like a domino affect – I can pay off my credit cards, I can afford to get a place of my own, and once I get those two things done I’ll be able to do some of my other goals like save.

Getting a place of my own is a major step – it gets me out of my current living situation, which is less than wonderful.

At present I’m aiming at getting out of my present living situation and into a place I can either rent month to month or by a six month lease. Then later in the year when the spaces start opening up like they always do I want to move into the holy grail of apartments here in town – one of the lofts over Starbucks. It’s a block away from the bus station, and within walking distance of every place I frequent. With my current job I’ll more than meet their minimum income requirement.

.. but I still want to make it a goal. I’ve been living with someone else my whole life; parents, housemates. I have my own space currently where I live but it’s just one room in a house so that doesn’t quite count.

An appartment, a flat, a little house – anything would be nice. I want to know what it’s like to have space where I can leave my dirty dishes on the counter for once and not have anyone complain, or what it’s like to have the entire place spotless and not have to worry about anyone else messing it up. It’s a freedom I’m looking forward to.
