... I observed a homeless man eating food picked out of a garbage can; I was on my way to the store anyhow to pick up a couple essentials and bought a loaf of bread while I was at it, and gave it to him when I walked back past him again, and he sat down on a bench to eat some of it.
No one should have to pick their food out of a garbage can.

I’ve finished seven more knit hats, bringing the grand total up to ten, and I’ve started on #11. I have a lengthy train ride tomorrow in the morning and another in the evening so I’ll hopefully come home with at least one finished and perhaps #12 started. :)
These hats will be donated next month to needy children, and as the weather turns colder, I’m glad to know they will be going to good use.

I’m really enjoying knitting hats.

Well. I went to the volunteer orientation on Thursday and got all the information about what to do to get started. I walked out of the office when it was all done with two skeins of yarn to start my first project – knitting scarves and hats for children and adults in need.
So far I’ve knit about 18 inches of a scarf and I have plans to donate some of the extra yarn I have sitting around my office to the cause as well.
I’ll be making phone calls on Monday about the other volunteer projects I’m interested in doing.

I signed up to attend a volunteer orientation with the local volunteer center this Thursday! Looking at their list of things that need to be done in the community, there over 20 pages worth of things to choose from. I’m certain I’ll be able to participate in at least a few.

It’s starting to get colder, as fall has come and winter approaches – in light of that, I’m taking a donation of blankets into the homeless shelter today.
