backpack through Europe for my 30th birthday

My local public library had a sale to get rid of all their VHS video cassettes; along with several others I purchased, I got one on backpacking.

I’m giving myself just under five years to accomplish this goal. I’ll be 30 in August of 2012 and I can think of no better way to celebrate a milestone like that than finally taking this Great Adventure. This gives me plenty of time to research, plan, and most importantly to save up for it.

I watched a travel show a couple years ago that was about backpacking through Europe and it looks like an incredible experience. I’ve always been pretty squeamish about trying to do it (I love showers, and having a place to home base frequently) but the more I’ve been thinking about it the more I realize I’ll regret it if I never try it.

I’m going to start small and practicing hiking around my city (which is quite environmentally friendly so I have lots of Interurban trails to explore) since I really need to get in shape, and make this a goal a celebration once I finish my other goal of going to University.
