New houses are icky. Unless, of course, they are truly new and innovative…lots of windows, woodwork, high ceilings. But most houses fall into the built-as-fast-as-possible-to-save-money category and are dreadful. Give me the 1920s house: big rooms, wood floors that creak, high windows that stick when you open them, sunrooms, old heating grates in the floors, scary basements. I feel so comfortable in those houses.
