taking the "write a research paper" course 16 months ago

in econ. and using the project we started this summer as my target. So hopefully end of this semester, it will be in shape for my coauthor to rewrite professionally and we’ll try to submit! (assuming we get any results.. )

meeting with some people to try to hammer out a topic today.

summer goal: 3 years ago

do research on the effects of bankruptcy law (ie, the number of people and as much demographics as i can get that file for bankruptcy before and after new laws go into effect)

learn:

who pays for bankruptcy?
do people not successfully complete it?
is it habitual? do changes in law stop it from being so?
how does our bankruptcy system work?

write up a lit review, suggest some paper topics, and send out to some econ profs asking if they would like to help me flesh it out. I am going to need proofreading, refining of ideas, help sending it to journals. even if i don’t come up with a cool paper from it, i think it will be really neat to learn.

my eyes are burning 3 years ago

I’d forgotten the joy of the lit review search.. aaaaaa.

now that i've changed majors 3 years ago

this is going to take awhile. I’m having to relearn all the tricks of lit sources (all new journals, oh my!), and well, learn enough that I have something worth saying. I do appreciate that my classes are trying to get me to do some research, I just wish they gave me a little more of a hand up for doing it.

full new draft and a rewrite later 4 years ago

... now it’s summer, and my teacher wants to coauthor – which means he takes over turning it into journal-speak and starts submitting it somewhere. Sounds like he already has journals in mind, etc.

Cool.

going back to the lit 4 years ago

This semester, the big restarter was to go back to a different area of the research and read and read and read about the problem from a different angle. Now that I’ve written up a seperate lit review, I feel like I’m back on a roll with the paper, and with a stronger foundation. It’s piecing itself back together, hopefully a little more attractively this time…

school projects lead to 4 years ago

more school projects. My teacher liked my research paper last semester so much that he is letting me do an independant study this semester to attempt to get it up to a publishable status. We are being much more hardcore about it. I just wrote a big honking lit review. I feel like I have learned something.

Cool
