Finished this goal in October 2010, went up the Machame Route with three good friends and we were lucky enough to get a great deal on the guide/etc due to a Peace Corps friend that worked in Moshi. Started for the summit around midnight and finally seeing the sunrise after a really steep and long climb up was one of the highlights. While I really loved the climbing/summit, I equally loved the National Park itself, there is so much biological/ecological diversity. Just getting to experience the nature and beauty of the park while walking around in the forests made the trip worth it. I will still have to climb Mt. Kenya (the true summit, not the summit you can hike to) and Mount Rwenzori one day, good reason to return to Africa.

Will be in South Africa for the World Cup in 2010 with three other friends and we all have full intentions of making our way north to Tanzania and climbing Kilimanjaro. It’s an expensive goal to achieve, will try to accomplish it as cheaply as possible. Figure the park fees will only keep rising and I need to take advantage of being in eastern Africa.
