I tend to get obsessions about things that are really sad. For example, I would love to travel all over the London Tube system and get a photograph of each and every sign at each and every station. Well, I did warn you I was tragic ;-)
Until I had a look on Wikipedia, I had no idea how many of Australia’s Big Things were within my geographical vicinity. There’s the Big Ayer’s Rock at Karuah; The Big Blue Heeler at Muswellbrook; The Big Wine Bottle at Pokolbin; The Big Mosquito at Hexham; and the world’s biggest sundial at Singleton. So far, my quest extends to driving past the Big Mosquito for two years on the way to work, and I didn’t even take a photograph of it!
Outside my geographical area, I’ve only seen the Big Banana at Coff’s Harbour (of which I do possess photographs) and the Big Gold Panner at Bathurst (which I do not).
I know it’s strange, but to be able to see at least all the Big Things in NSW would be something of an achievement for me. I’d love to go and see the world’s biggest sundial at Singleton on a cloudy day, simply to say “My sundial hath stoppeth.”
I think this one’s gonna take a long time …
