learn to drive by October 2007

I wasn’t confident enough to go for my license yet. I AM DETERMINED to get it before Christmas though – if not for me, for my baby. Who wants to be learning to drive with a newborn? And it will make me far calmer if I know I can drive hir to the hospital in a hurry if anything ever happens when s/he’s growing up.

Our laws say I have to have driven on my Learners permit for at least 50 hours before I can go for my Provisional license. I have over 50 hours, as of this weekend! And apart from a bit of parking practice, I think I’m all set and ready to go.

I called round to a few driving school to get prices on lessons – it’s criminal! The cheapest was $42, the most expensive $55, for a one hour lesson. Ouch!

I am getting MUCH better at driving. My confidence is way up, I’m getting much smoother at braking, and I’ve now tackled one of the intersections round here that scare me (the other is a MASSIVE roundabout, known as Gilligan’s Island – still not up to it yet!)
The wicked fairy is letting me drive almost every day,and on Monday I drove my other housemate and Nathan and Carina to the University, without the fairy in the car to cheer me on.

I am driving lots more now. Last night I drove back from Shellharbour, some of it at 80km/h (my top speed, on my Ls)! My parking has gotten much better – I am getting closer to the gutter without prompting. And I drove down our city’s main street tonight!

But after a discussion with the wicked fairy the other night, we have decided to set out to get me my Ps by my birthday – the first of October.
