I’m taking online Hindi classes at Edufire, dabbling with the free Livemocha resources (not the best, but they’re free and chat with native speakers is free) and using a bunch of different websites and books. I don’t practice as much as I’d like to, but the weekly online classes at Edufire keep me on track. Every week I understand more and more of what they are singing and saying on Namaste America and in Hindi movies. Cool!

There is a free 6 – week online course in conversational Hindi starting this Friday, 1/9/09 at 10 am PST (1 pm EST) at edufire.com. The url for the class is

There’s a free online Hindi course at livemocha.com which I’m taking. I’m on Unit 2 – yay! Unfortunately it really doesn’t teach you the devanagari script or even properly integrate it into the lessons. I’ll have to find another way to learn it better. There are so many words I want to look up. What is ‘saajan’, for example? Something to do with marriage?
Just love ‘em. I love Deepa Mehta movies too. It’s a beautiful-sounding language and I now know some words and grammar, but it’s mostly just for entertainment. One day I’d like to visit India.
