Better Than Sleep! 3 years ago

I’ve been meditating daily for about two years now, and it is Definitely worth it! Of course, I have missed days here and there, but the alertness and relaxation that I feel is definitley missed on those days. Here are some things that helped me start it up, and keep it up:

- Used the fact that I just couldn’t sit still at first, as that much more of a reason that I should be. If I couldn’t sit down for five minutes without being bored, or thinking I was ‘wasting time’, then there was definitely something wrong.

- Realized that a half hour of meditation is worth At Least(!) an hour of sleep for me. Being “too tired” in the morning to meditate isn’t a worthwhile excuse! Meditating actually helps to overcome my tiredness way more than hitting the snooze button.

- Noticing how often I “used”/carried my meditation with me throughout the day. So many situations (work, people, traffic) where I am now able to slip into that quiet mind-state, now that I’ve practiced the skill.

- Found out that meditating helps Immensely with hangovers! Even being hung over/staying up late is more of an excuse TO meditate, than to not.

The mind does eventually get more quiet, the time eventually passes more easily, it does get to be a pleasant thing that is missed and looked forward to. It is a skill, relaxing the muscle that is the brain. Even just taking the time to be “with myself” is worth every minute for me.
