Two of the five people who submitted writing for critique didn’t show up, but the 11 people who did show seemed to complement the group. The next meeting is on April 3rd. I’ll be submitting two or three poems for critique. I tend to be more critical of my poetry than of my other writing, so I’d better get started now. There are a few in-process pieces that merit further work. It certainly can’t hurt! Well, it might, but I’ll get over it.

The first meeting went well, with 12 people in attendance. We managed to review all 4 submissions, about 60 pages in all. Some interesting material conceptually. The next meeting is Feb. 7th and I have to have a submission in by Jan. 25th. That won’t be hard – what will be hard will be resisting the urge to tinker the work into a mangled mess. First, one of the stronger poems. And then 10-12 pages of one of the novels. At least I have a couple of weeks.
Attending a meeting on January 3rd of a local writer’s group – I’m looking forward to meeting them and we’ll see how things go. I’m going through some of my more ‘finished’ pieces – mostly poems and short stories, and will probably submit a few for next month’s meeting.
