I have written a letter to the caretakers of my holiday cottage near Vimmerby. Now I have to translate it into Swedish. This should be a good exercise to do.

Got a letter from Eon the electricity company and also from Anticimex an insurance company. I was translating them with the help of a Swedish friend. Very interesting as he said the language used was not one you would use in everyday speech very archaic and official.
Just got back and found that I was able to converse fairly well and met up with a Swedish friend today and managed to express myself fairly well. He did help me out when I got stuck. Feeling confident to do a bit more study and improve.
I’m off to visit my stuga in July so time to brush up a bit. Went to see my Swedish friend this week to help me to translate a letter from the council in Vimmerby about the rubbish collection. He found it amusing as the letter was full of official language that is hardly used in spoken language.
There was a red dot sticker in the envelope and if I want to keep the old metal dustbin then I have to put the dot on the lid or it will be recycled and replaced with one of the new plastic ones.
I have a Swedish friend who wants to learn web design so we’ve been trading Swedish conversation for web design lessons. The idea was to do it once a week as he lives pretty close to one of my yoga clients but now that there is a baby I think that once a month is more realistic.
Listening to P1 http://sr.se is also really useful as it keeps reminding you of the sound. Just picking out words and phrases is fun.
I have a holiday home is Sweden. I can speak a little bit and my accent is not bad at all but I want to get really good.
