I stitched an ugly square 2 years ago

So I did learn to do single stitch and I made a little square but the ends are all uneven. Ha, so hopefully I will do better on the next one. PS. my mom said the key is to do loose chain stitches :)

Am I an idiot or what 2 years ago

I have the chain stitch/beginning down but when I start the actual single stitch crochet it looks like crap, not right. I dont know what Im doing wrong. Hopefully I’ll go to my moms saturday and she can help me out.
