A spontanous start 21 months ago

prompted by an invitation on Facebook. Its a pretty basic format, and there are some limits in getting the application to mend to my complicated family structure, but it a good jumping off point. Made me realize how much I do and don’t know. I emailed a few questions to my parents and really look forward to interviewing my grandparents.

The best feature is its ability to link to others via Facebook and allow them to add and connect. Christian’s cousin is the one who sent it to me and I am hoping she will get into adding to her side of the family. There is so much family in South Africa that we have never met and know little about.

The worst feature is that it doesn’t allow you see it all at once. You have to follow each name and it becomes a bit of a maze of links. I want a printable version I can hang on the wall and see the whole form and structure at once.

I think I am ready to expand the project and will spend a day at the library researching other formats.

More clues 2 years ago

Found out some interesting family history this week. Am somehow related to the founder of Cornell University who is entombed in their chapel. Linda and Ian visited and took photos. I think David is the one with the details on the linkage. A cousin on the Prue side, grandma Mary’s mother grandma sis’s madien name. French Canadian. I really need to learn how to spell all of these.

I also want to find out more about who was in the calvary at Fort Robinson and which battles they were involved with. To think, my relatives may have met Crazy Horse. Even if they were responsible for his demise.
