I know from the experience of others at local universities that sometimes they’ll take general education classes at a junior college to reduce the cost of school overall.
It seems to me that it may be easier to set up a school for these general education classes first and then move on from there. I also think that there are a number of classes that could be created with lectures on DVD with general assistance DVD content as well that could take the place of in person lectures. After the DVD’s have been used for a number of students one could determine which material isn’t being learned as well as other material and the class materials could be updated. I think this would work best with subjects such as math, English, history, chemistry, etc… The core subjects of general education.

I think that educating everyone who wants to get a college degree will move the US and the world towards a better future. I think that college educations are too expensive these days. I feel that we are giving an unfair advantage to people who come from more well to do families.
I don’t think that creating funds for people who can’t afford college is the answer, it only perpetuates the existing system. I think that there needs to be a grassroots program of people who want to work towards educating everyone who wants a college degree. In my mind we have to:
1) Create and get accrediation for new institutions which are dedicated to providing the highest quality education for the lowest cost. It might be a good idea to make these institutions non-profit institutions.
2) Create public domain textbooks and materials that these colleges can use to teach students.
3) Find people qualified to teach all the subjects necessary to complete a college degree who can donate their time or work at reduced rates to provide education to those who otherwise can’t afford it.
4) Find like minded people who want to work towards such a goal.
