asp3 has written 6 entries about this goal

Lots of activity on this in the last few weeks

I’ve done a lot towards this goal. The major work has been done on my el-wire project which is about 3/4 of the way done now. I’ve finished the jacket unless I want to add one more piece of el-wire and I have one leg to do on my pants. I really like the way one side of the jacket turned out and think the other side is good enough. My wife and dressed in our el-wire costumes this weekend (hers is complete) at a party and everyone thought they were great. I can’t wait until mine is done.

We also went fabric shopping for playa wear and we found some great pink, sparkly, furry cloth that will be one of my pairs of pants. We also got some great fabric for shirts. I learned how to cut the material out for a pattern and cut out my pants material.

I also finished my main daytime hat and like the way it turned out.

I will eventually post pictures but not yet.

I'm working on implementation and design simultaneously

I’m 3/5’s of the way done with total design of my el-wire outfit. I have yet to come up with an idea for my left leg and I have to make the final design of the right side of my jacket.

I’ve sewn on about 90% of the el-wire for my right leg and just need to finish that up. I want to sit on my bicycle seat with the pants on to make sure I won’t be crushing the wire when I ride. I’ll need my wife’s assistance to make sure I get a good outline of the seat when I sit on it.

The el wire is starting to hit the outfit

I took my initial drawings and then put twine on the clothing I have for my el wire to see what it would look like. I ended up changing it a few times and finally came up with a design I like.

Now I’m going through the gruelling process of sewing the el wire on my clothing. I’m not that great at sewing so it’s rather slow going. However I’m getting it done so much earlier than I was trying to do it last year. I think it will probably end up taking me a two or three weeks of working an hour or two a day to get it done. Only time will tell.

I’ll post pictures after Burning Man.

I'll probably start on my el-wire this weekend

I drew up some potential el-wire costume designs and will probably start sewing my el-wire on my costume. Last hear my wife and I had outer wear with el-wire on it. This year we want to have pants and tops with el-wire.

The picture here kind of shows our el-wire costumes from last year. We both had el-wire crowns. My wife had an el-wire jacket and I had more of a coat. We’re in the middle of the picture with my wife on the left and me on the right. Unfortunately most of my wife’s el-wire was on the back of her jacket.

I did a couple of drawings tonight

I had an idea for my el wire costume and drew them in one of my sketch books. I liked how they turned out, but I’d really like to find some white longjohns and try the patterns on those with washable markers. If I like it I’ll use it as a design, but if I don’t I’ll wash the longjohns and try a different design.

I might have more to do than I have time for

I know I need to start designing my el-wire costume and decorate my bicycle, but there are other things as well. Time is slipping by and I need to start working on these projects and list all of the other things I want to do. I need to determine what other costumes and/or items I want to wear while there. I think I need to make up a list of tasks to perform.
