Imagine you found yourself in Bolivia. You spoke little spanish. How would you survive? Bolivia has plenty of people willing to do physical labor. Not so many know how to repair the machines that have made their labor devalued. I could bemoan the world in which this has arisen, or I could seize the opportunity and realize that I have the potential to develop a power over the mechanized state which has rendered the “laborer” redundant. When people praise certain careers, they often say that “you could get hired anywhere,” but to my knowledge only mechanics and doctors have this power. Doctors, being upper class, can demand citizenship from any country, but mechanics, being useful, can find under-the-table, tax-free work anywhere, too.
