Well, I never met my original goal of providing a wiki structure to catalog Akkadian texts. But I did become a wikipedia contributor. I wandered on a hoax which was being given legitimacy by Wikipedia. I suspect this is the greatest danger of Wikipedia. It has left me quite dissillusioned with Wikipedia, but I did learn about WikiWatch through the experience. You should go there:

Fixing wikipedia is like polishing a turd.

Oh, and Sean L. Yom is a lying son-of-a-bitch.
I may put up a web page all about that piece of shit.

Okay, my techie buddy stopped by to help me with TeX and we discussed this problem. What we are going to build is a database like MathSci and see how that works. I want a stripped down version, but he wants to mark it up a little. Projected launch? January.

A question about this goal:
Could wikipedia be the right venue for this idea?  — 2 years ago
Perhaps I need my own wiki?  — 2 years ago

Here is a problem probably not known to the world at large which could quickly be rectified by wikis. Suppose you work in the British Museum. You have a collection of papyri or cuneiform tablets. Years ago they were inventoried with numbers. Now, since their collection, these texts have been copied, translated and published. Because they were not published in order, there is no complete bibliography. You cannot just look through a handbook which lists the pieces by inventory number. Perhaps this would not be so rough, but people refer to these pieces by inventory number all the time. References such as “In BM 10086, the area of a circle is found by…” When the tablet was originally published, the article was probably not titled “BM 10086: a approximation of pi.” It was probably called something like “Fourteen Arithmetical Texts from Uruk.” I first encountered this problem trying to track down later publications of all the texts reproduced as handcopies in LBAT (Late Babylonian Astronomical Texts).
