I’ve found this tactic to be surprisingly effective because it shifts my autopilot response to food from “eat what’s in front of me” to “eat 0-99% of what’s in front of me.” And then I have to consider how hungry I am and how close to 99% I really want to get. Leaving a token french fry on the plate may not sound like the most effective tactic, but it represents a huge shift in psychology.
