dress more stylishly

but this is under control. While babysitting experiments, I shopped online and invested a week’s pay in replacing some of the rattier/worse-fitting stuff in my closet. So now I’ll be about as well-dressed as I want/can afford to be.

My friend A., a Ph.D. student in my field at another university, reports that the only woman in his group is guaranteed to be found at the mall the day after a deadline. It’s not so much a reward, at least for me, as a chance to give shopping the time and energy it deserves.

I could use black boots (which should be on clearance now), black pumps, maybe a closed-toe wedge, maybe a hip-length blazer, a new pair of jeans, and some t-shirts. We’ll see what I find – it all begins the day after the deadline.

I am confident that I’m doing the best I can with the closet I have. The next step is to judiciously invest in some great clothes. I’m not going to have time for this until the paper I’m working on is finished, but I can start by clearing out the stuff I don’t wear in the meantime.

Mascara and lip gloss have been fun. The next challenge dovetails with FlyLady, and I think it will be the most important: planning my outfits for the next day before bed every night, and including at least one accessory.

I am wearing earrings every day now, and it feels great! My new subgoal is to wear mascara and lip gloss every day as well.

I’m trying to define clear paths to some of my more nebulous goals. For this one, I’d like to start with actually wearing earrings every day, which is something I can be really lazy about.

After months and months of abstaining from clothes-buying, I got these hot little boots for half price! Husband had been half-seriously goading me to get cowboy boots (we’re both originally from the…um…cowboy boot-y part of the US), but this is as close as I’ll get :)

I got an ad/gift certificate from Cache in the mail yesterday. Their fall clothes are so beautiful. I really streamlined my wardrobe this summer and bought no new clothes at all, so maybe it’s time for a fall splurge =)
