I don’t see any point in writing a novel if no one is meant to read it. Your novel might inspire someone else to improve themselves and possibly drive them to produce something great themselves.
A pop culture reference: Harry Potter. The book was originally created because a young mother was struggling to put food on the table for her young child. Desperate for options, she began writing a story that made history. I like the series, not only because it is clever and original, but because it became a tool to get young people to finally turn off their televisions and start hitting the books.
I believe that I had a near-death experience. I was in an extreme amount of pain… I have no idea how I survived. I am blessed that there was no permanent damage; thankful that my hands, my eyes, my brain are left intact. This led me to believe that I am not supposed to leave this planet without leaving some sort of mark that I was ever here. What a responsibility! The idea actually came to me after I happened to come across a little movie called Orange County.
A few months ago, I completed a book called The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I loved the cover art. The bio and blurb were very witty. The story was cleverly written and it made it on the New York Times Bestseller list. The only thing was… even though this book was brilliant, I hated the novel! I couldn’t understand why. It had everything going for it… but I… just didn’t like it.
I figured, this book has everything in a novel that I could have possibly liked. If this person could write a novel, I could write one too.
Another example. Confessions of an Heiress by Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton? Did she even write the book? Anyway, if Paris Hilton could write a book. I definitely could have a novel published. In fact. Paris’ dog, Tinkerbell even published a novel! Please.
But what to write about? The last great novel that I read was Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Oh how I wish I can create an adventure like that! So well thought out! I highly recommend this book.
I would like to write a novel, but I’m not sure if I can. Instead, I might just write a series of short stories and vignettes. I have alot of ideas… but they just don’t connect. Its best to write from what you know after all! Perhaps the second project will be a novel.
