Is part of the Axe Historique (Historic Axis) which is a line of historical monuments in Paris.
Inspired by the Arch of Titus in Rome and is currently the second largest triumphal arch in the world.
It was built to commemorate those who fought in the wars, mostly the Napoleonic Wars.
Below the Arc is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier which is representative of everyone who died and could not be identified. It has an eternal flame which was the first eternal flame to be lit in Europe since 390.

Champs Elysees is French for Elysian Fields which is the place of the blessed in Greek Mythology.
Latest design was done by Bernart Huet who created more pedistrian zones and created an underground parkinglot which leaves only half of the street for vehicles.

1. Darfur reigon is located in Western Sudan, Africa. Is roughly the size of France.
2. One of the reasons for conflict is environmental problems: drought, rapid overpopulation, desertification and climate change.
3. Rebellion began in 2003 when two groups(Justice and Equality Movement and Sudanese Liberation Army)charged the Sudanese Government with oppressing non-Arabs.
4. The Government backed the Janjaweed which is an Arab Militia that systematically killed, raped, and abused non-Arabs.
5. The UN doesn’t consider this genocide, although somewhere between 250,000 and 400,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million have been displaced. However, the activist group, the Save Darfur Coalition, does term this as genocide.

2. Three different platoons went through My Lai and killed anything that would move.
3. This fueled the antiwar movement and went through a series of coverups.
4. Lt. Calley was the only person to be charged with war crimes.

1. Originally rejected by the army when he went to enlist due to the fact that he is tone deaf. At the height of the Vietnam War, he was given a notice that requested a re-evaluation of his condition. He was accepted for the draft.
2. Was convicted for premeditated murder of 22 Vietnamese villagers in My Lai. He gave orders to his platoon to kill everyone in the village.
3. Calley was sentenced to life imprisonment. President Nixon intervened and Calley was released from prison pending an appeal. The sentenced was then reduced to 20 years.
4. Calley was released in 2007

Influnced George Lucas to release the Star Wars movies with his book, A Hero with A thousand Faces, Lucas openly credits Campbell.
Termed the patter a narrator makes when discribing a hero’s journey a Monomyth.
Campbell is most widely known for his collaboration with PBS producing a series title, the Power of Myth. Later, this became a best selling book.
He died in 1987 from Esophageal cancer after filming the Power of Myth

The Federal Council is the top executive body. It consists of seven members who are elected for a four year term. A President of the Confederation is elected by the council’s members for a one year term, then another is elected. Pascal Couchpin is the current President of the Confederation.
