Stalled!

Well, I was making fine progress, but then totally stalled on working on this because I was traveling so much this summer and therefore adding to the debt instead of losing it. I also have to keep my liquid funds liquid for paying lawyer fees (whole other story), so I’m just sitting on the credit cards right now, which I think are around $8000. Once my lawsuit is settled, I should have more than enough money to pay it all off. How long that will be, I don’t know.

maybe by April?

I’ve started joking that I have one goal to get out of debt and 42 goals that will put me into debt. Not entirely accurate, but it feels like that sometimes. In the past month and a half I ran up another $1500 on the credit cards and then paid off $1500 on the credit cards, getting me back to square one.

It turns out I actually paid more than enough on my quarterly taxes last year, so I get a break on taxes this quarter, so I may be able to pay off a little extra. I can definitely pay everything by April IF I don’t spend too much in March…but I kind of wanted to go to Mexico in March and if I have to choose between that and waiting an extra month to pay off my credit cards…I’ll choose to wait another month to pay off my credit cards!

The year-end progress report

Okay, my student loan is all paid off and I’ve got all my credit card balances transferred to zero-interest-until-2007 cards, It’s still about $4000, though. Since I have to deal with taxes and my income is going to be lean in 1st quarter, it might take longer than I thought to get everything to zero.

Almost there

Even during the times that I’ve managed to zero-balance my credit cards, I’ve still had my student loan. Even though I paid it down almost $8000 last year, there’s still a little bit left. I would like, if even for a moment, to have NO DEBT AT ALL. Something I have never experienced in my adult life.

I just finished paying about $5000 on my credit cards, paying off all but one. I only have a little over $6000 left to pay off the last card and my student loan. I should be able to do at least half by the end of the month and hopefully all by the end of the year.
