The thing I realize is that some of my ideas have been out there for six years or so and some have surely earned six figure royalties to date. What I want, however, is to get a royalty check for six figures. This would mean that it’d have to make six figures in a month or a quarter.

So the thing that I’ve determined is that I make an average of $0.10 royalty per unit sold on most of the things that my ideas end up on. This means that if I want to make six figures off a single idea, I have to come up with a million seller. Since even my good ideas tend to sell more in the tens of thousands range, I figured I needed to do a little research on what sold in the millions.
Researching things that have “mass appeal” has been very eye-opening. It seems I have very frequently been barking up the wrong tree. This has helped me to streamline my brainstorming, though, and knowing which ideas are worth pursuing and which aren’t.

Currently I only brainstorm new ideas once every three months at the most. I’ve decided I need to start doing it once a week if I’m going to come up with enough ideas that I can find at least one that will strike gold.
