i thoroughly enjoyed this book; i had my pencil in hand all the while i was reading it. The best 50 cent “abandoned by library” book investment i have ever made.

a wonderful story, about christopher, and his detective investigation into the death of wellington. who was a dog, which is a “canis”. it has a red cover, which makes it a Super Good book.

“The attentions of others might be said to matter to us principally because we are afflicted by a congenital uncertainty of our own value.”
An interesting discussion of what defines status and value; the ephemeral nature of its determinants and how we may overcome the woes of status anxiety . a scourge which surely plagues our modern capitalist society. reading alain de botton is both refreshing and enriching.
particularly relevant , in these “times of terror” and all.
very relevant indeed.
A collection of Schopenhauer’s essays and aphorisms. A brilliant man, with er, interesting views on women. One of the most gratifying reads in a long time, i could not keep my pencil from his pages. So thankyou, Mr Schopenhauer, thankyou.
no coherent plotline, but a series of amusing incidents woven in with the stress that occasionally bubbles up in the melee of “meatball” surgery. Follows the enlistment of Captain Hawkeye Pierce, and Captain Duke Forrest in he 4077th MASH, with much tomfoolery, including mermaid traps, the finest kind paediatric hospital & whorehouse, and dangling jesus from a helicopter.
finest kind
A book about the many and varied scenes of share-housing around the great cities of Australia; bucket bongs, the hazards of junkies, and waking up with a mouth full of cockroaches, this book is full of cringeworthy anecdotes and informative passages for the chronic share-house victim, or the curious reader…
A very interesting, and charming book full of alluring descriptions and pithy anecdotes. I have never read what I would describe as an anecdotal travel book before; never thought i would find such a book interesting. However, i found that Mayle’s recount of the languorous provencal lifestyle and cultural nuances engaging and compelling.

hmmmm….
a book that balanced both the grandiosity of the theatre- the passion and creativity of life, and it’s fair share of homosexuallust.
i think this book was a little too zealous in it’s attempts and did not completely convince me of the greatness in its message. A passionate lover of the theatre myself, i felt that it did not encompass the true/complete depth of what theatre in essence is, although it tried to.
i must read more children’s books to see whether i have just become elitist with age, but i am sure it could have been written better. a lovely notion though,
